Spencer Kamoni, a sophomore from Jamestown on the men's team, accounted for the only win for the Jimmies on Saturday at the Cobber Invite in Moorhead.
Kamoni came into the indoor season in prime shape and has looked it.
He skunked the field Saturday and essentially was running alone in his winning 1:58.51, which was just 1.2 seconds from qualifying for nationals.
"Spencer really committed himself to getting in shape and it's paying off for him," JC men's coach Ed Crawford said. "He keeps getting better and better and I really think he has a chance to qualify for nationals. He's really motivated and it's great to see."
Crawford spoke the same way of Jarann Johnson, who continued his fast start to the season.
The junior from California was second in the 400 (51.048) and sixth in the 200 (23.38) right behind teammate Brent Jansen (23.31), a PR.
"Jarann has really done a nice job for us. He's another kid that's really motivated and you can see that by the way he is running right now."

Jamestown College collected eight first-place finishes, five by the men, at the Northern State Triangular on Saturday in Aberdeen.
The Jimmie men had a solid second outing of the season, piling up five first-place performances in the meet.
In fact, it was five different performers to earn the top-place finishes.
"Overall it was a pretty good meet for us," said coach Ed Crawford. "We made pretty good progress from the first week to the second week and that was good to see."
Trent Roemmich and Jarann Johnson continued their unbeaten start.
Roemmich, a sophomore from Linton by way of Bottineau, won his second straight 55 meter hurdle race in a time of 7.94, leading a dominant 1-2-3-4 JC effort in the race. His brother Scott was second (8.28), J.T. Petsch was third (8.38) and Cody Ptacek (8.85) was fourth.
Trent Roemmich is rapidly closing in on the indoor national qualifying time. He was just .07 seconds short.
"Trent is really close. He's doing extremely well," Crawford said.
Johnson posted his second consecutive victory in the 400, crossing in a time of 51.29 to win comfortably.
