Growing up in western British Columbia, Ben Cairns spent most of his free time playing sports.
He eventually chose baseball as his sport of choice and parlayed that into a successful career at Jamestown College. In fact, he was a two-time All-Conference third baseman for the Jimmies.
He had quite a 3-year run at JC, too. He currently ranks in the top 10 in school history for hits in a season (68 in 2008), RBIs in a season (45 in 2009) and runs in a season (54 in 2008).
He earned a business degree from Jamestown College, but his career path is about as far from baseball and business as you can get.
Cairns is working in the thriving motion picture industry in Vancouver, which produces more movies and TV shows than any other city in North America, with the exception of Hollywood and New York City.
"It's funny, growing up I played a lot of sports and generally all of my friends and the people I hung out with were the same way," said the 27-year-old Cairns. "In this world it's interesting because you come across pretty much every kind of person in the world, except sports people. There's not many of those around.
