The short-handed Jimmies had a strong showing at the Minot Invite on Saturday.

Decimated by injuries and academic ineligibilities, Jamestown College had six wrestlers place at the Minot State Dome, topped again by 165-pounder Marlon Branson.

The six JC placers were spread out in just four weight classes.

Branson, the junior from Kodiak, Alaska, placed second at 165-pounds for the second straight meet. He also placed second in Dickinson on Jan. 14.

Branson collected a pin and major decision en route to the championship match against Ethan Hinebauch of Montana State-Northern where Branson came away with a 12-8 win.

Johnathon Gonzalez also competed at 165 and went 2-2 to place sixth.

Daniel Taylor and Jaykob Miller each placed third.

Taylor and Miller each went 3-1.

Taylor had to earn his third-place finish at 133 when he outlasted Matthew Chambers of Dickinson State, 12-10 in overtime.

A total of six schools were represented in this tournament: Dickinson State University, Minot State University, Northern State University, Chadron State College of Nebraska, Montana State University-Northern, and the Jamestown College Jimmies.

The Jimmies had a good showing with five of their six competing athletes placing among the top five.
An outstanding performance was put forth by junior Marlon Branson at 165 pounds as he took home a 2nd place by winning four matches on the day.

Two Jimmies wrestled for third place. Zach Pickering was pinned by Trevor Goss of Montana State-Northern at 1:47 and ended up fourth place at 149, while Drew Spaulding of Minot State won a decision (7-2) over Jaykob Miller at 157 to knock Miller to fourth.

Daniel Taylor pinned Robert Meador of Dickinson State at 1:22 to take home fifth place in the 133 weight class.

Sam Brown earned a fifth place finish in the 157 weight class with a pin in 2:14 over Taylor Pownall, unattached-Chadron State.

The Jimmies will be heading to Dickinson again on Wednesday, January 18th, to compete in a dual meet against Dickinson State University.
