[Men's Wrestling] Sam Brown Earns Academic All-District

Sam Brown, Jamestown College (hometown Colstrip, MT), was honored as a District 5 winner for Capital One Academic All-District, sponsored by Co-SIDA.

There are 8 districts.

Sam will now move on to the voting at the National Level to see if he can become an Academic All-American.

Sam Brown is a senior wrestler with a 3.59 GPA with Chemistry and Mathematics Majors

He was a three time national qualifier: 2010-11 (149), 2011-12 (157), 2012-13 (149).

Sam was a team captain two years and had 24 wins for his senior season.

He is also a three time Daktronics/NAIA scholar-athlete and a college fellow in Chemistry.

[Men's Wrestling] Shawn Martin signs with Jamestown College

Jamestown College head men's wrestling coach C.J. Campbell announced the signing of Shawn Martin, Saugus, California.

Martin is a varsity letter winner in wrestling at Academy of the Canyons High School.

"It is my pleasure to sign Shawn Martin to the Jimmie wrestling family for the upcoming season," Campbell said. "Although Shawn has been absent from the sport for a couple of years, his passion has not diminished. We are eager to help him get his engine running and see what he has to offer to the sport and our college. I know we can help develop his skills and the values that this great sport and our program promote."

Martin has also been active in track and Associated Student Body. He plans to major in Pre-Medicine at Jamestown College. He is the son of Shawn and Claudia Martin.

[Men's Wrestling] Brandt and McCullough sign with Jamestown College

Jamestown College head men's wrestling coach C.J. Campbell announced the signing of Matthew McCullough, Temecula, California.

McCullough is a Southwestern League champion and Master's qualifier for Chaparral High School.

"At six-foot-five and 280 pounds, Matt will be a great addition to our heavyweight lineup," Campbell said. "We are happy to bring him aboard."

McCullough is an honor roll student and a recipient of the Presidential Award for Volunteer Service. He plans to major in History at Jamestown College. He is the son of Mark and Monica McCullough.

[Men's Wrestling] Sam Brown named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar

Sam Brown (Senior, Colstrip, MT) has been named a 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Wrestling Scholar Athlete.

Sam Brown wrestled for the Jamestown College Jimmies this season.

Brown earned 21 wrestling wins during his senior season.

This is the third straight season Brown has earned this award.

[Men's Wrestling] Fantastic Four Compete in Des Moines

Jamestown College standout Michael Nord was the last Jimmie to lose out the first day of the NAIA national wrestling tournament in Des Moines, Iowa.

Nord, a 165-pounder, won his first match, getting a bye past the first round and punching his ticket to the quarterfinals by beating Gian Traverson of Missouri Valley College by 17-9 major decision. However, Great Falls' Shawn Lau upended him 3-1 to send him into the consolation bracket. He was pinned in the third period by Midland's Sterling Terry to end his tournament.

Sean Blumhardt (125) also received a bye into the second round, where he fell to Lindsey Wilson's Ethan Miller by 6-4 decision. He came back with a pin in 3:43 over Josh Williamson of Wayland Baptist, but lost out against Indiana Tech's Kristoph McKinley in consolation round action by 3-1 overtime decision.

Jaykob Miller (157) and Antonio Lopez (heavyweight) both lost their first two matches.

Miller lost Missouri Valley's Dylan King by 6-4 decision and to Michael Gonzalez of Cumberland 6-0.

Lopez was pinned in the opening round by Eric Thompson of Grand View in 1:09, and lost by 4-1 decision to Indiana Tech's Logan Rimmer.

The Jimmies finished in 30^th place out of 37 teams.

Four Jimmie Wrestlers have qualified for the NAIA National Wrestling Tournament!

1. Michael Nord (SO) dominated the North Region National Qualifying Tournament, receiving a 1st place finish and an automatic qualification for Nationals!

2. Dillon Kifer (FR) was injured during his finals match at the North Region National Qualifying Tournament. He finished 2nd place and earned an automatic qualification to Nationals!

3. Sean Blumhardt (SR) placed 3rd place at the North Region National Qualifying Tournament and earned an automatic qualification to Nationals!

4. Jaykob Miller (JR) placed 6th place at the North Region National Qualifying Tournament and earned an At Large Bid to Nationals!

· Sophomore, Antonio Lopez placed 6th at the North Region National Qualifying Tournament and was voted in as the 1st Alternate for Nationals!

The NAIA National Wrestling Tournament will begin held in Des Moines, IA at the Jacobson Exhibition Center this Friday and Saturday as 210 wrestlers from the NAIA will be competing for All-American honors, awarded to the top 8 wrestlers in each of the 10 weight classes.

Michael Nord's dominant sophomore season continued on Saturday.

Nord steamrolled to the 165-pound championship at the North Region Qualifier on Saturday to lead Jamestown College to a sixth-place team finish, one spot better than last season.

Nord, who improved to 27-4 on the season, opened with a pair of pins and then capped his 4-0 day with a 12-1 major decision over Morningside's Chad Morehead in the title tilt.

Nord, a four-time state champion for Lisbon by way of Enderlin, will be a top four seed at the national meet March 1-2 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Nord was one of three Jimmies to earn a trip to nationals

Sean Blumhardt at 125 and standout freshman Dillon Kifer at 141 were the others.

The Jimmies finished with 78 points in the 12-team meet. Dickinson State had the winning total with 153.5. Morningside (137) was second and host Midland (123.5) was third.

Blumhardt, a senior from Ellendale, won three of his four matches and beat Aspen Kmiec of Midland 8-6 in the third-place match for his 13th win in 19 matches.

[Men's Wrestling] Nord and Blumhardt Capture Briar Cliff Titles

Michael Nord's dominant season continued on Saturday.

The Jamestown College standout sophomore blitzed the 165-pound field at the Briar Cliff Open in Sioux City, Iowa.

Nord and teammate Sean Blumhardt both earned individual titles at the 17-team meet, helping the Jimmies to a seventh-place finish overall.

Nord, a sophomore from Enderlin, entered as the No. 7 seed at 165, but was easily the class of the field.

Of his five wins, four were by pin, including an 89-second beat down of J.C. Vercande of Grand View (Iowa) in the championship match. Only O.J. Stevens of Midland (Neb.) was able to stay off his back against Nord, and just barely as the former 4-time state champion for Lisbon High School steamrolled 15-0. In all, Nord accounted for 25.5 of the Jimmies' 66.5 points.

Blumhardt was not far behind.

[Men's Wrestling] Silver Lining in Jimmie Setback

Jamestown College won four of the seven contested matches against the University of Mary Tuesday night.

The problem was that they also had three open classes, two of which resulted in forfeits, giving up 12 points. That was the difference as the Marauders came out on top 24-13 in the dual held in Bismarck.

Both teams were open at 141, but the Jimmies also were empty at 197 and heavyweight.

Still, there were positives.

The Jimmies went 4-3 in head-to-head matches against the NCAA Division II Marauders.

Jamestown College got off to a very fast start as Sean Blumhardt returned from injury and dominated Jordan Eckholm. The senior from Ellendale rolled to a 17-4 major decision. Blumhardt did not wrestle last weekend at the Jimmie Open.

Coby Horner, who won three matches at the Jimmie Open on Saturday, followed with a 5-1 victory over Hunter Menendez at 133.

[Men's Wrestling] Nord and Kifer Win Individual Titles at Jimmie Open

Michael Nord and Dillon Kifer continued their dominating seasons on Saturday.

In their final home meeting of the season, the two Jamestown College underclassmen went a combined 7-0 to win individual titles at the 8-team Jimmie Invite.

Nord, the former 4-time state champ at Lisbon High School via Enderlin, was particularly devastating as he rolled through the 165-pound division to the tune of four straight pins, and none of his four opponents could even get out of the first period. In fact, only Dickinson State's Jason Armitage could get into a second minute. Nord's other three matches took 100 seconds or less.

Nord missed most of the first half of the season getting his grades in order, but has been back full time since Christmas and been lights out.

"Michael is a clutch wrestler. Depending on what's needed in a given match he steps up and does what needs to be done," said JC head men's coach C.J. Campbell. "He has a winning mentality. He's not used to losing and he's a handful for anybody."

[Men's Wrestling] Lopez Wins in Overtime for Jimmies

Antonio Lopez relies on stamina for success.

The Jamestown College heavyweight bulked up this season in hopes of making a successful transition from the 197-pound weight class.

"Usually, with heavyweights, what I work on mostly is cardio," said Lopez, who hails from Paramount, Calif. "Once I get them to the later rounds, they're usually gassed and they take sloppier shots."

It worked nicely on Wednesday night, as Lopez scored a takedown with time running out in overtime to secure a 5-3 decision over Concordia's Cody Kasprick, an Oakes native. The win was one of only two matches the Jimmies won, however, as Concordia won the dual 34-6 at the Hansen Center.

Still, Lopez and Kasprick provided a show, throwing each other around on the mat to the amazement of the crowd. Lopez scored a takedown in the first period and Kasprick came back with a reversal. An escape by Kasprick in the second period gave him a 3-2 advantage, but Lopez scored a point on riding time to send it to overtime.

With time running out, Kasprick tried to make something happen and Lopez made him pay, scoring the takedown as the last second ticked off the clock.

[Men's Wrestling] Dillon Kifer Wins Championship in Dickinson

Freshman Dillon Kifer continued his impressive freshman campaign by winning the 141-pound title at the Tyler Plummer Classic on Saturday in Dickinson.

Kifer, from Little Falls, Minn., finished off his unbeaten day with flare, burying Ryan Martin of Great Falls (Mont.) by technical fall 16-0.

Two other JC wrestlers reached the championship round.

Sean Blumhardt reached the 125 final, but came up just a tick short. The senior from Ellendale went down to the wire with Bryden Lazaro of Dickinson State before falling 5-2.

Michael Nord nearly captured his second straight title at 157 pounds. The Enderlin product advanced to the 165-pound finale, but came up short 12-3 against Minnesota State-Moorhead's Ethan Hinebauch.

As a team the Jimmies finished fifth out of nine teams with a total of 80 points.

Great Falls (140) edged Dickinson State (135.5) for the team title.

Three other Jimmies advanced to placing matches.

Heavyweight Antonio Lopez ended his day with a win. The sophomore from Paramount, Calif., topped David Lopez of Great Falls 5-3 in the third-place match.

At 133, freshman Edward Wilson also had a shot at third, but fell to Dickinson State's Robert Meador, 9-4.

[Men's Wrestling] Nord Brothers Lead Jimmies in Nebraska

Pat Nord and Michael Nord found themselves in a difficult position on Saturday.

Success was good to the brothers from Enderlin, both whom wrestle for Jamestown College.

Competing at 165 pounds, Patrick and Michael advanced to the championship match at a tournament in Hastings, Neb., where Michael edged his sibling by 3-2 decision.

Physically, and probably emotionally as well, the match was the toughest for both competitors.

Michael won by 15-7 major decision over Bethany (Kan.) wrestler Jordon Ward. He followed with a pin over Justin Larson of York (Neb.) College and then topped Mitchell Rechtzigel of Augustana (S.D.) by 10-3 decision to punch his ticket to the finals.

Patrick pinned Trever Dice of Bethany and beat South Dakota State's Ben Schwery by 9-4 decision, also receiving a bye to earn a spot in the finals.

No team scores were kept at the tournament.

[Men's Wrestling] Nord Pins, Kifer Wins against 9th ranked DSU

Pins can make a world of difference in college wrestling, and ninth-ranked Dickinson State proved that on Thursday.

Holding a 16-10 lead, Jon Morales (174), Jesse Hellinger (184) and Kevin Keisler (197) reeled off consecutive falls to secure the Blue Hawks' 37-10 win over Jamestown College at the Hansen Center.

"It's huge, especially in a dual when you only have 10 matches," DSU coach Thadd O'Donnell said. "If you (give up) one pin, you have to win two matches to make up for (it). We talk about bonus points a lot and not giving them up."

DSU won eight of 10 matches, flexing its muscles in the upper weights where most of its experience lies. After JC's Michael Nord pinned T.J. Poole at 165, the Blue Hawks won the final four matches.

"We knew that was the case going in," said JC coach C.J. Campbell, who started six freshmen. "We were anxious to see how we could hang with some of these ranked kids in these tough weight classes."

[Men's Wrestling] Gonzalez wins A.I.I. Male Athlete Award

Dillon Kifer, Sam Brown and Johnathon Gonzalez each went 2-1 to lead the Jimmies on Friday in Hutchinson, Minn.

Jamestown College lost to Ridgewater (35-15), defeated Itasca (30-9) and lost to St. John's (28-19).

Kifer, a freshman from Little Falls, Minn., posted a pin and major decision at 141 pounds.

Brown went 2-1 at 149 pounds. The Colstrip, Mont., native lost his first match, but followed up with consecutive pins.

Gonzalez had two pins and his lone loss came by a single point to Lucas Coop of Itasca, 3-2.

Joseph Murillo (125), Edward Wilson (133), Jaykob Miller (157), Tucker Davison (174), Jacob Tilley (184) and Brian Kaehler (197) were each 1-2.

Wilson and Davison each won by fall.

The Jimmies are back in action Jan. 10 when they host Dickinson State.

[Men's Wrestling] Kifer and Brown Notch Back-to-Back Pins

Jamestown College reeled off four straight wins, but Waldorf (Iowa) won the other six matches en route to a 30-21 win over the Jimmies on Saturday at the Waldorf Duals.

Freshman Dillon Kifer and Sam Brown posted back-to-back pins for the Jimmies at 141 and 149 pounds to get them back into the match.

After Jaykob Miller won at 157, Johnathon Gonzalez posted a pin at 165 to cap four straight JC wins.

The Jimmies also squared off against Southwest Minnesota State, falling 40-3. They picked up a 7-5 decision from Dillon Kifer at 141, but struggled the rest of the way.

Jamestown College caps the first half of the season on Friday with three duals at Ridgewater Community College in Hutchinson, Minn.
