Bud Etzold Image
Bud Etzold - Head Coach - 8th Season

Bud Etzold enters his eighth season as the head coach of Jimmie football. Etzold is in his second stint with the Jimmies, as he served as head coach from 1995-1999. Under his leadership, the Jimmies won two conference championships in 1997 and 1998, while advancing to the playoffs of the NAIA and being ranked #1 nationally in 1998.

In 1999, Etzold was named Athletic Director at Jamestown College and served in that capacity until 2000 when he accepted the position of associate vice president for institutional advancement.

In 2002, Etzold left Jamestown College for a coaching and development position at the University of Mary, Bismarck, ND. He has also served on the football coaching staffs at Bismarck State College, University of North Dakota, Dickinson State, Central Missouri, and Central Michigan.

Etzold holds a bachelor's degree in physical education from Dickinson State University ('78) and a master's in exercise science from Central Missouri State, Springfield. He has nearly 30 years of experience in post secondary education along with collegiate experience in institutional advancement, residential life, admissions, and athletics.

Etzold and his wife, Peggy, have a grown daughter (Tessi) and son (BJ), along with one granddaughter.

 
Shawn Frank Image
Shawn Frank - Assistant Coach - 8th Season
Shawn Frank begins his eighth year with the Jimmies and fourth year as the Defensive Coordinator, while directing the secondary as his main position group.

In addition to his duties as an assistant football coach, Frank serves as the recruiting coordinator and also manages the Athletic Republic Speed & Acceleration program.

Under his guidance, the Jimmie secondary has become one of the top units in the conference in terms of passing yardage per game and interceptions. His units have also spent time in the top ten in the country against the pass. Frank has coached ten all-conference players and two AFCA first team All-American  in the last five years. Prior to coming to Jamestown, Frank spent ten years coaching in his hometown, Hettinger, ND. He spent one year as an assistant and nine seasons as head coach of the Black Devils, compiling a 49-32 record. He guided Hettinger HS to six state playoff berths, highlighted by the 2000 Region IV title and two other regional runner-up finishes. He coached 17 all-state players and had many former players play collegiately in the DAC, North Central Conference, and MIAC.

In 2000, Frank also served as the athletic director of the Hettinger Public School system. Frank has also served as an assistant coach for the North Dakota Shrine Bowl.

He earned his bachelor of science degree in physical education at the University of Mary, where he began his coaching career as the running back coach in 1992. He was a two-time All-NDCAC first-team selection as a defensive back.

Frank and his wife, Lori, who is employed by the BCSC District, and serves as the Watershed Coordinator for Barnes County, have two daughters, Sarah and Kayla.
 
Kevin Gall Image
Kevin Gall - Assistant Coach - 15th Season
Kevin Gall has a dual coaching position at Jamestown College. He serves as the Jimmies' head softball coach and is also the wide receivers coach for the Jimmie football team during the fall.

He enters his 15th year as a Jimmie assistant  coach. Gall will again be coaching the wide receivers in which he has produced ten All-Conference receivers the last five seasons. In addition he has coached two All-Conference kickers in Bryan Lowree and Nate Nygard.

Gall has been on staff that has seen three of the four teams in Jimmie football history that have earned national playoff bids.

As a softball coach, Gall has compiled over 300 wins in his 11 years of coaching. He has coached over thirty all-conference softball players and has won Coach of the Year awards three different times.

Coach Gall grew up in Ellendale, ND where his parents (Earl and DeeAnne) still live. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and physical education in 1993 from Jamestown College.

He and his wife Jennifer have one daughter, Payton (7) and twin boys, Ethan and Preston (5).
 
Ben Olson Image
Ben Olson - Assistant Coach - 2nd Season

Ben Olson is beginning his second year as assistant coach (offensive line) and along with head coach Bud Etzold is co-offensive coordinator for the Jimmies. Olson also is the video coordinator for the Jimmie athletic department.

During the Jimmies' 2010 season, Olson helped guide a first team All-Conference lineman, a second team All-Conference lineman, and two honorable mention All-Conference linemen. The Jimmie offense averaged more than 30 points per game and finished first in the conference in passing and second in rushing.

Prior to coming to Jamestown College, Olson was an assistant coach at Minnesota State Moorhead.  He spent three seasons as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for the Dragons.  In 2005 and 2006, Olson was a graduate assistant/tight ends coach for the University of North Dakota.  Those teams won the North Central Conference both years, making it as far as the National Quarterfinals in 2006.  He also served as the video coordinator during his time at UND.

Olson earned his bachelor's degree in social science at the University of North Dakota and is currently pursuing a master's degree in kinesiology. He was a two-time All-NCC first team selection as an offensive lineman for the Sioux. His senior year saw him win the NCC Lineman of the Year Award and become a first-team All-American.  While at UND, he was a starter for both the 2001 National Championship team and the 2003 National Runner-up team.  Following his career at UND, Olson signed a free-agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks and played two seasons of arena football for the NIFL.

Olson was born and raised in Windom, Minn., and graduated from Windom Area High School in 1999.

Dan Smith Image
Dan Smith - Assistant Coach - 1st Season

Dan Smith begins his first year as an assistant with the Jimmies after 24 years at Los Fresnos High School in South Texas.

During his tenure at Los Fresnos he served as the offensive coordinator, special team's coordinator, defensive line, and head strength and conditioning coach. Smith was also the Head Powerlifting coach; under his guidance, Los Fresnos won nine state championships.

Dan also served as the Junior Olympic Head Weightlifting Coach from 2000-2004. Smith has coached numerous High School, Collegiate, National, and World Champions, earning him state coach-of-the-year honors nine times and national coach of the year in 2001.

Smith was inducted to the THSWPA Hall of Fame in 2010.

Prior to coaching in Texas, Dan was the Elementary Principal and Athletic Director at North Shore Public School in Makoti, North Dakota. Smith received his bachelors from Valley City State University where he played defensive tackle on three DAC football championship teams, and NAIA semi-finalist in 1980, earning him Hall of Fame inductions for two teams in 1996 and 2009 at VCSU. 

Dan and his wife, Pat, who is the Principal of Roosevelt Elementary, have three children: Ben is the head swim coach and history teacher at Jamestown HS, Casi is in her first year at Texas State Univ, and Kati is a sophomore at JHS.
