COLUMBIA, Mo.-- Laurie Frew's penalty kick was the only offense No. 5 Columbia College needed Saturday afternoon as the Cougars held off the Jimmie women's soccer team 1-0.
After Connie Contreras (SR/Gilroy, Calif.) was shown a yellow card with 2:28 left in the first half, Frew made good on the ensuing penalty kick, ending the 0-0 score.
The Jimmies (8-4-1) had a 7-5 shot advantage (5-4 on goal) in the opening 45 minutes, but could not get on the scoreboard.
Columbia outshot Jamestown 7-4 (4-3 on goal) in the second half.
Kristin Breaux (FR/Chino, Calif.) had three shots on goal for the Jimmies and Kristyn Aldridge two.
Lauren Sayler (JR/Bismarck, ND) made seven saves for UJ. Erin Jones had eight stops for Columbia, who improved to 13-0-0.
Jamestown plays at Mount Marty (S.D.) College at 1 p.m. Sunday.
