ATHENS, Ohio-- Tyler Chavez-Leech (FR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored twice and Tallon Kramer (FR/Grand Prairie, Alberta) stopped 44 shots as the No. 14 Jimmie hockey team defeated third-ranked Ohio University 3-2 Friday evening.
Friday's win was the second for the Jimmies in three meetings against the Bobcats. UJ defeated Ohio 3-2 in the first matchup last season.
Chavez-Leech scored a power-play goal at the 6:38 mark of the first period to give Jamestown the lead. Jason Richter (SO/Cranbrook, British Columbia) and Cole Sonstebo (SR/Fergus Falls, Minn.) were credited with assists.
The Bobcats tied the game at 10:01 of the first on a goal by Michael Palasics, assisted by Jake Faiella and Bryan Lubin.
UJ's second goal also came on the power play, as Bryan Kromm (SO/Stockton, Calif.) converted for the Jimmies on assists by Cameron Todd (SO/Burraneer, Australia) and Trevor Okino (SO/Richmond, British Columbia). Kromm's goal came at 3:47 of the second and put Jamestown ahead 2-1.
Chavez-Leech struck again 23 seconds later to make it 3-1 Jimmies. Sonstebo and Bryson Yee (SO/Calgary, Alberta) got the assists.
Gianni Evangelisti scored on the power play to bring Ohio within a goal at 3-2 at the 14:10 mark of the third period. Tyler Harkins and Jacob Houston assisted on the goal.
The Bobcats outshot the Jimmies 46-20, including 41-12 over the final two periods. Kramer saved 18 shots in the second and 23 in third on the way to his second consecutive outing with 40 or more saves.
UJ was whistled for four minor penalties and Ohio five. The Jimmies were 2-of-5 on the power play while the Bobcats were 1-of-4.
Jamestown (2-3-0) and Ohio (4-1-0) will conclude their series Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
