MADISON, S.D.-- Henrique Lucena-Pires (SR/Porto Alegre, Brazil) and Hamish Mills (JR/Adelaide, Australia) of the Jimmie men's soccer team have been named North Star Athletic Association Men's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Lucena-Pires had two goals and an assist in helping UJ to a pair of home victories over the weekend. He had the game-winner against Johnson & Wales (Colo.), scoring on a penalty kick in the 66th minute. He also assisted on the Jimmies' first goal of the match. On Saturday, he scored on a free kick to extend UJ's lead to 2-0 over Grace (Neb.), on the way to a 9-0 shutout victory over the Royals.
Mills helped lead a Jimmie defense that allowed just one goal on six shots in a pair of home victories against Johnson & Wales (Colo.) and Grace (Neb.). He blocked a shot to thwart a scoring chance in UJ's 2-1 victory over Johnson & Wales. Mills was a key part of the Jimmies' strong defense against Grace, as the Royals put only one shot on goal in the match.
The Jimmies (3-2-1) host University of Mary Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
