JAMESTOWN-- Jedd Sugden (SR/Toowoomba, Australia) scored twice and seven other players recorded goals as the Jimmie men's soccer team took care of Grace (Neb.) 9-0 Saturday evening at the Jimmie Turf Field.
The game was called with 12:26 remaining due to darkness, but UJ put the game away early against Grace, who featured just 12 players in the match.
Sugden gave Jamestown the lead 44 seconds into the contest with his first goal of the season. His second goal, assisted by Eric Fairtlough (FR/Varese, Italy), would come at the 18:18 mark, but before that goal, Henrique Lucena-Pires (SR/Porto Alegre, Brazil) made it 2-0 in the sixth minute.
Derek Dreher (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) increased Jamestown's advantage to 4-0 with his first of the year in the 22nd minute. UJ continued to run riot in the first half, as Ben Mathews (SR/Brentwood, England) helped set up two more goals in a span of 51 seconds. Kyle Fenske (JR/Savage, Minn.) made it 5-0 at 24:38 and JJ Mowrey (SO/Findlay, Ohio)'s goal pushed the lead to 6-0. The goals were the first of the season for Fenske and career for Mowrey.
Jacob Grosvenor (FR/Christchurch, New Zealand) joined the list of Jimmies opening their goal-scoring account Saturday as he took a pass from Matt Spiro (FR/Menifee, Calif.) in the 56th minute. Spiro got into the act in the 74th minute with a goal of his own set up by Mowrey. Bryce Nybo (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) made his first Jimmie goal a memorable one, converting a penalty kick a couple of minutes later to finish the Jamestown outburst.
Jake Askew (SO/Rotherham, England) saved the only shot he faced on goal to earn the clean sheet. The Jimmies outshot Grace 23-3 (18-1 on goal).
The win pushes UJ above the .500 mark (3-2-1) and extends their unbeaten run to four matches. The Royals (2-8-0) lost for the sixth straight outing and have been held scoreless in their last five.
Next up for the Jimmies is a home date against University of Mary on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
