JAMESTOWN-- Kristin Breaux (FR/Chino, Calif.) recorded a natural hat trick in a span of four minutes and seventeen seconds as the Jimmie women's soccer team tied a season-high for goals in a 5-1 win over Johnson & Wales (Colo.) Friday afternoon.
However, it was Lateasha Hughes (JR/Minot, N.D.) who provided the game winner in the 64th minute, breaking a 1-1 tie. Hughes got just enough of a touch on the ball to put it past Wildcat keeper Katelyn Peters. The assist went to Juliet Ramirez (JR/Fairfield, Calif.).
Breaux gave UJ a 3-1 lead at the 77:40 mark of the second half with a long-range strike from nearly 30 yards out. Her second goal, assisted by Ana Balmaceda (JR/Glendora, Calif.), came at 80:33 and stretched the Jimmie lead to three goals. Then one minute and twenty-four seconds later, Breaux completed the hat trick, making it 5-1.
Jamestown led 1-0 at the half after Nicole Bologna (SR/Anaheim Hills, Calif.) scored in the 37th minute.
Chloe Arredondo evened the match for Johnson & Wales in the second half with her goal in the 57th minute.
The Jimmies (7-3-1) outshot Johnson & Wales 23-9 (14-5 on goal) and had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Lauren Sayler (JR/Bismarck, ND) saved four of the five shots she faced for the win. Peters had nine saves for Johnson & Wales, who fell to 4-6-1 on the season.
Jamestown hosts Grace (Neb.) Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
