JAMESTOWN-- The Jimmie hockey team, ranked 14th in the latest ACHA Division 1 poll, opens the home portion of its 2017-18 schedule Thursday when they host No. 2 Minot State University.
Despite winning just once in eight games against the Beavers last season, the first-year Jimmies showed they belonged among the top teams in the ACHA. The instant rivalry drew interest not only statewide but on a national level as well.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at John L. Wilson Arena. Live video of the game will be available at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/jamestown.
Minot State enters Thursday's game with a record of 2-0-0, winning a pair of games against Oklahoma, 3-0 and 6-1, on September 15-16. Forward Shain Scheschuk had a big weekend for the Beavers, scoring three goals and adding a pair of assists. Forward Lyndon Lipinski also scored twice and had two assists.
Jamestown split its opening two games at Midland (Neb.) last weekend, winning 5-2 Friday and losing Saturday 5-1. Six different players found the scoresheet against the Warriors, including Cameron Todd (SO/Burraneer, Australia) and Jackson Fulton (SO/Kelowna, British Columbia), who also added assists and are tied for the team lead in scoring.
The Jimmies will head to Minot Friday for the second half of the home-and-home series. Game time is 7 p.m.
