MITCHELL, S.D.-- Alyssa Weidler scored two second-half goals in a span of two minutes and 19 seconds and the Dakota Wesleyan University Tigers defeated the Jimmie women's soccer team 2-1 Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Jimmies put three shots on goal in the game's first 12 1/2 minutes, but were unable to get the ball past Tiger goalkeeper Hannah Bowes. UJ finished with a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal in the first half, which ended scoreless.
Weidler scored at the 59:50 mark on an assist by Alexandria Jacobs to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. She struck again at the 62:09 mark on an unassisted tally to make it 2-0.
Kirstyn Aldridge (FR/Williamsburg, Va.) registered her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 with 10:46 left to play. Kristin Breaux (FR/Chino, Calif.) and Aldridge had shots but Bowes saved them both. A final shot by Ashley Greenlund (SO/West Fargo, N.D.) with 3:32 left went wide, and the Jimmies were unable to score the equalizer.
Bowes finished with nine saves for DWU. Lauren Sayler (JR/Bismarck, ND) had 3 saves for Jamestown.
