MILWAUKEE, Wis.-- Ben Prochniak (JR/West Fargo, N.D.)'s goal 48 seconds into overtime gave the Jimmie men's soccer team their first win of the season, a 1-0 decision over Cardinal Stritch University Saturday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Jimmies (1-2-0) were playing with a man advantage for the final 49:45 of regulation after Cardinal Stritch's Vinicius Oliveira was sent off after a red card near the end of the first half. Cardinal Stritch (2-2-1) played a stingy defense in the first 45 minutes, allowing UJ just one off-target shot.
Lasse Binder (SR/Hamburg, Germany) saved all three of the Wolves' shots on net to keep the game scoreless at the break.
The second half seemed to be a mirror image of the first, as Binder made three saves against the Wolves and the Jimmies put just one shot on net, coming at the 78:09 mark by Kyle Fenske (JR/Savage, Minn.).
Prochniak tallied his second career goal and first of the season 48 seconds into the first overtime, beating Stritch keeper Pablo Ortiz and securing the win.
Binder finished with six saves in his first clean sheet of the season. The Wolves outshot the Jimmies 14-5 and had a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. There were a total of 27 fouls in the match, 14 of which were committed by Jamestown.
HAT TRICK (3 TAKEAWAYS FROM SATURDAY'S MATCH):
1. Jamestown was 1-0-2 in overtime matches last season, and are 6-1-6 in their last 13 OT games.
2. Binder's shutout was the fifth of his career. He posted a career-best three clean sheets in 2016.
3. Prochniak's last goal came in the first game of the 2016 season, and he had gone 20 matches without finding the net.
Jamestown faces St. Ambrose (Iowa) in Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
