VALLEY CITY, N.D.-- Jalen Pfeifer completed 21-of-25 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns while running for 59 yards and another score as the Valley City State University Vikings defeated the University of Jamestown 43-13 in the 118th meeting between the schools.
The win also brought the Paint Bucket Trophy back to Valley City and gives Vikings a 40-30 edge in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Vikings scored 29 first-half points on the way to a 29-0 halftime lead. Pfeifer tossed two scoring passes of 30 and 26 yards to Jake Peterson and a 35-yard touchdown pass to Marc Wagner. He also accounted for the Vikings first touchdown of the day, finding the end zone on a 19 yard run.
Jamestown went three-and-out on their first drive, and on 4th and 10 from their own 10, fumbled the snap in the end zone, giving VCSU an early 2-0 lead on the safety.
Louis Quinones made it 36-0 Vikings on a 10-yard run with 11:08 in the third quarter.
On the enusing drive, the Jimmies got on the scoreboard as Jimmy Hatch (SO/Sacramento, Calif.)'s first touchdown of the season, a 2-yard run, capped off a 6 play, 22-yard drive.
Quinones scored his second rushing touchdown of the day with 6:01 left to push the lead to 43-6.
Jordan Mann (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) scored from six yards out on the Jimmies' final drive to make the score 43-13.

Pfeifer completed passes to eight different receivers, his favorite target being Peterson, who finished with seven catches for 113 yards and the two scores...he also led the Vikings with 59 rushing yards...Dylan Klatt (SR/Crookston, Minn.) completed 12-of-25 passes for 142 yards, including a 44-yard completion to Josh Verghis (SR/Fargo, N.D.)...Branden Edwards (SR/Apache Junction, Ariz.) had 57 yards receiving on 3 catches. Zeb Taber (SO/Fargo, N.D.) had three catches also...Allen Jevning (FR/Brainerd, Minn.) led the Jimmies with 57 yards on 10 carries...Caleb Ellingson (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) had a season-high 14 tackles and a sack for a loss of 11 yards...UJ converted a season-best 5 of 16 third-down attempts...Jamestown had a 31:33-28:27 advantage in time of possession.
Jamestown (0-4) hosts Waldorf (Iowa) next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and will try to avoid their first 0-5 start since 2013.
