JAMESTOWN—Phoebe Edwards (SO/Adelaide, Australia) scored in the 39th minute and the Jimmie defense made the goal hold up as Jamestown defeated Dordt (Iowa) 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Dordt nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute, but Natalie Sakuma's shot deflected soundly off the crossbar and out of harm's way. Sakuma also had an attempt in the 13th minute but her shot went wide of the goal.
Dianne Miranda (SR/Tustin, Calif.) and Lateasha Hughes (JR/Minot, N.D.) combined for the Jimmies' four shots on goal in the game's first 20 minutes, but Dordt goalkeeper Belle Helgerson denied each attempt.
Edwards finally broke through for the Jimmies, scoring her fourth goal of the season on a pass from Connie Contreras (SR/Gilroy, Calif.), chipping it past Helgerson on the right side of the net.
Jimmie goalkeeper Lauren Sayler (JR/Bismarck, ND) did not have to make a save in the first half, but she was busy in the second half, making four saves in the game's final 12:26. Her biggest save came in the 78th minute as Dallas Parker broke free for a one-on-one scoring chance, but Parker's shot was right at Sayler and easily caught.
HAT TRICK (3 takeaways from Saturday's match):
- Jamestown played to a 1-0 score for the fourth time this season, evening their record at 2-2 in those games.
