HASTINGS, Neb.-- For the second straight day, the Jimmie women's soccer team held a top-15 ranked team scoreless for 90 minutes. Unfortunately, for the second straight day, UJ lost in overtime, this time 1-0 to No. 14 Hastings (Neb.) Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Heidi Bartsch scored 1:53 into overtime to give Hastings the 1-0 win. Her header, assisted by Janine Lahey and Courtney Doeschot, beat Jimmie keeper Lauren Sayler (JR/Bismarck, ND) and sent the Broncos to 4-1 on the season.
The Jimmies had two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. Kristin Breaux (FR/Chino, Calif.)'s shot at 33:49 of the half was saved as was Nicole Morrison (SO/Idaho Falls, Idaho)'s, which came with 7:20 in the half. Four of the Broncos' six shots were on goal and Sayler saved all four.
Jamestown kept up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Broncos 7-4 overall and 4-2 on goal. Dianne Miranda (SR/Tustin, Calif.) led the team with two shots, and eight Jimmies registered a single shot.
HAT TRICK (3 TAKEAWAYS FROM SUNDAY'S MATCH):
1. Jamestown (4-2-1) held Hastings to one goal for the second time in five matches. The Broncos had scored 10 goals in their previous four matches.
2. Sunday's match was the third straight overtime contest for the Jimmies. The last time Jamestown had three or more overtime matches in a season was 2014, when the team played five such games (0-3-2).
3. UJ's 3-1-1 road record equals the 2015 team for the best five-game road record to start a season.
