University of Jamestown catcher Quinn Irey (JR/Bismarck, ND) and infielder Landon Uetz (SR/West Fargo, ND) were named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced Wednesday.
Irey batted .313 with five home runs and 39 RBI for the Jimmies. He threw out 14 of 61 potential base-stealers and was a 2017 North Star Athletic Association first-team selection.
Uetz, who was named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete for the second time, hit .363 with a team-high 13 home runs and 50 RBI as UJ ended the season with a 40-21 record and a spot in the NAIA Opening Round. He also led UJ with 73 hits, 15 doubles, and 34 bases on balls .
383 men's baseball student-athletes were named 2017 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Baseball Scholar-Athletes.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved junior academic status.
