VALLEY CITY, N.D.-- The Jimmie baseball team, facing a season-ending game, kept hope alive one more day by beating the Bellevue (Neb.) University Bruins 6-1 Sunday at the NSAA Baseball Tournament.
Quinn Irey (JR/Bismarck, ND)'s sacrifice bunt scored Tyler Ludlow (JR/Port Orchard, WA) to give UJ a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Scooter Turin (JR/Sandy, OR) came home on Kory Wolden (JR/West Fargo, ND)'s suicide squeeze to double their lead heading into the bottom of the third.
Bellevue got on the board in the bottom of the fourt, cutting the lead to 2-1. Miles Campbell scored on Diego Iribarren's RBI single.
A wild pitch and Christian Shouman (SR/Lake Stevens, WA)'s sacrifice fly added two more runs in the top of the seventh, giving Jamestown a 4-1 advantage.
Brad Bennett (SR/Hillsboro, OR) went the distance for Jamestown, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out eight. Todd Nicks was the losing pitcher for Bellevue. He worked seven innings and surrendered four runs and five hits, striking out five.
Jamestown moves to 39-18 while Bellevue sees its record fall to 49-8. The two teams meet again Monday at 11 a.m. with the winner advancing to face the winner of Valley City State (N.D.) and Mayville State (N.D.) in the NSAA championship game at 5 p.m.
