SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The Jimmie women's basketball team will attempt to become the first team at this year's NAIA National Championship to advance to the round of eight on Friday, when they take on Davenport (Mich.). Tipoff is set for 8:30 a.m.
The 10th-ranked Jimmies advanced to the second round with an 87-63 win over No. 23 Oregon Tech on Wednesday. Davenport comes into Friday's contest ranked sixth in the country and have an overall record of 31-3. They defeated Saint Francis (Ind.) 80-73 in their opening round matchup.
The meeting will be the first-ever matchup between the Jimmies and the Panthers, who are a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Davenport currently ranks first in the country in total rebounds (1643), second in rebounds per game (48.3), second in blocked shots (158), and are fourth in total points (2740).
Jamestown is also ranked among the top 10 leaders in several categories. UJ is fourth in three-point field goals made per game (9.8), fifth in three-point field goals made (305), fifth in scoring margin (24.161), sixth in turnover margin (7.677), seventh in points per game (82.7), and ninth in steals (372).
