DICKINSON, N.D.-- A cold first-half shooting performance was too much to overcome for the Jimmie men's basketball team in an 83-65 loss Saturday in the NSAA semifinals.
The Jimmies (18-14) made just 9-of-26 first-half shots and committed eight turnovers as they fell behind 48-27 at the half. Dickinson State was 18-of-29 in the opening 20 minutes while taking advantage of Jamestown's shooting woes.
Despite outscoring the Blue Hawks 38-35 in the second half, UJ did not trail by any less than 17 points until Sam Johnson (JR/Mora, Minn.)'s three-pointer cut the DSU lead to 76-60 with 1:51 in the game.
Jacob Havron (SR/Pukalani, Hawaii) recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.) added 14 points and four rebounds while Jon Purintun (SO/Linton, N.D.) added 13 points.
Jamestown finished the game shooting 37.1 percent from the field, compared to Dickinson State's 55.8%. The Jimmies made just 7 of 26 three-point attempts while the Blue Hawks made 6 of 13 tries.
Dickinson State advances to the NSAA championship game on Monday against Bellevue (Neb.) in Omaha.
