DICKINSON, N.D.-- In a matchup that lived up to the hype, the 11th-ranked Jimmie women held off a comeback by No. 21 Dickinson State University Blue Hawks late in the fourth quarter clinch its fourth straight NSAA regular season conference title, winning 68-63 in the NAIA DII Women's Basketball Game of the Week.
Jamestown (22-4, 15-0 NSAA) led the Blue Hawks 23-11 after the first quarter, and that margin proved to be the difference as the Blue Hawks outscored UJ 52-45 over the game's final 30 minutes.
Neither team shot the ball particularly well. Jamestown made just 37 percent of its attempts, and only 29 percent from three-point range. Dickinson State also shot 37 percent from the floor, and connected on 39 percent from beyond the arc.
Bryn Woodside (JR/Albert Lea, MN) led the Jimmies with 18 points and three assists. Kyra Dewald (SR/Jamestown, ND) added 16 and Taylor Hammer (SR/Grand Forks, ND) posted another double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Lorna Shepherd had a game-high 21 points for the Blue Hawks (21-6, 13-2 NSAA), while Taylor Henningsgard and Ashley Bentz-Laub both finished in double figures with 13. Megan Klein pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead all players.
The win clinches the number one seed in the NSAA conference tournament for the Jimmies and ensures them of homecourt advantage throughout the tournament.
Jamestown concludes the regular season with a trip to Valley City State on Saturday.
