BELLEVUE, Neb.-- With their conference destiny in their hands, the Jimmie men's basketball team suffered a blow to their conference title hopes with a 79-60 loss to the #21 Bellevue Bruins.
The Jimmies (15-13, 9-5 NSAA) trailed by three at the half, shooting 50 percent overall but making just one of eight three-point attempts. Second half shooting stats went downhill from there, as UJ was 7-for-29 from the floor, including 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.
BJ Shelton's layup gave the Bruins (19-8, 11-3 NSAA) a 44-37 lead almost three minutes into the second half, but a three from Logan Brown (SR/Roseville, Minn.) and buckets by Jon Purintun (SO/Linton, N.D.) and Riley Henderson (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) drew UJ level at 44 with 15:19 left.
A 6-0 Bellevue run turned into a 16-6 run as the Bruins went back up by 10 at the 9:37 mark. A pair of Brown free throws made it 62-54 with 7:42 to play, but the Jimmies would get no closer.
Purintun led Jamestown with 23 points. Brown was the other Jimmie in double figures, finishing with 15.
Nick Hilton had 25 points to lead all scorers. Jaffrey Stillman posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Three other players were in double figures for Bellevue.
Jamestown concludes the regular season with road games next weekend, playing at Dickinson State (N.D.) Friday and Valley City State (N.D.) Saturday.
