SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- Mike Zupan (JR/Moorhead, Minn.) and Theo Robison (SO/Westminster, Colo.) each won two matches for the Jimmie men's wrestling team at the Sioux City Dave Edmonds Open, hosted by Morningside College.
Zupan, competing at 174 pounds, lost his first match to Dylan Blackford of Grand View by technical fall, but then won a 12-5 decision over Concordia (Neb.)'s Darrin Miller and a medical forfeit over Northwestern's Tanner Stamper-Smith. Zupan was defeated in his final match by Nebraska-Kearney's Talon Seitz, 5-3 sudden victory.
Robison, also competing at 174, was pinned by Grand View's Lawton Benna, and rebounded to take back-to-back matches. He was a 14-0 major decision winner over Wayne State's Gerald Kenkel, and took down Brock Brenneman of Northwestern by 14-11 decision. Robison's day came to an end against Blake Joiner of Grand View, who won by 13-2 major decision.
Jesse Barajas (JR/Sunnyside, Wash.) (125) and Ryan Sanchez (FR/Deland, Fla.) (184) were the other Jimmies who earned wins on the day. Barajas pinned Tucker Hicks of Morningside in 2:27 while Sanchez won an 8-1 decision against Zach Kraus of Graceland.
The Jimmies host Dickinson State (N.D.) in a dual Tuesday beginning at 7 p.m.
