LEBANON, Ill.-- In the final tuneup meet before next month's 2017 WCWA Women's College Nationals in Oklahoma City, a trio of Jimmies finished with top-six finishes.
Amy Fearnside (SR/Morgan Hill, CA) had perhaps the most dominating championship performances regardless of weight class on Saturday. Fearnside, competing at 116 pounds, won all four of her matches by technical fall. What stood out in Fearnside's path to first place was that not one of her opponents was able to take a point from her. Fearnside defeated McKendree University's Tayler Resuriz 12-0, Charlotte Fowler of Campbellsville 10-0, Missouri Valley College's Christy Powell 10-0, and Cady Chessin of Menlo College 11-0 in the championship match. Chessin took third place at the 2016 WCWA Women's Nationals. Resuriz was third at 109 pounds at last year's WCWA Nationals.
Dajan Treder (SR/Anchorage, AK) made it to the championship match at 123 pounds against McKendree's Hailee Lilly, who was competing unattached, and lost a tough 4-3 decision. Treder pinned Menlo's Bianca Arizpe in her opening match, then won a 10-0 tech fall over Lindsey Spjut. Against Tam Tillman of Missouri Baptist in the semifinals, Treder was victorious by 14-1 technical fall.
Trica Martin (SR/Traverse City, MI) gave the Jimmies two placers at 123 pounds, finishing sixth. She pinned Wentworth Military Academy's Jessica Baker in 51 seconds to start the day, then won a 6-2 decision over Alyssa Gonzalez of McKendree. Chessin won an 8-4 decision to send Martin to the consolation bracket. Martin lost by 12-1 technical fall to Charlotte Fowler of Campbellsville before falling to Missouri Valley College's Christy Powell by pinfall.
Also finishing in the top eight was Myranda Velazquez (SO/Los Banos, CA), who took seventh at 170 pounds. She opened the day with a 10-0 technical fall win over Lindenwood-Belleville's Rachael Rice, then followed with a pin of Myra Escalante, competing for the Jimmie Wrestling Club. Nahiela Magee won by 13-2 technical fall to send Escalante to the consolation bracket. She won a 7-4 decision against McKendree's Olivia Toth, but was pinned by Toth's teammate Janelle Fuamatu in the next match. Velazquez finished with an injury default win over Oklahoma City's Rachel Watters.
