MARSHALL, Mo.-- The Jimmie men's wrestling team competed in day one of the two-day Missouri Valley Invitational, hosted by Missouri Valley College.
Friday was mainly opening round matches to set the brackets for the championship round and consolation rounds, which begin at 9 am Saturday.
Joey Murillo (SR/El Paso, Texas) (125), Dillon Kifer (SR/Little Falls, Minn.) (141), Jackson Schauer (SO/Grand Rapids, Minn.) (157), and Mike Zupan (JR/Moorhead, Minn.) (174) all earned wins for Jamestown.
Zupan won by tech fall 13-3 over Kyle Dillon of Ottawa (Kan.) in his first match, then lost a 6-1 decision to Ricky McCarty of Oklahoma City University in the third round of the championship bracket. McCarty is ranked third nationally among all 174-pound wrestlers.
Schauer defeated Briar Cliff's Leland Slawson by 4-3 decision, then lost 4-0 to fifth-ranked Brandon Weber of Montana State University-Northern.
Kifer won a 13-1 major decision against Abel VillaMoreno of Bacone College before being pinned by MVC's AJ Bindner in 2:07 during his second match.
Murillo opened with a 10-4 decision over Marian's Chris Sharp before falling in a 6-2 decision to Grand View's fourth-ranked Da'Wayne Robertson.
