After competing in five duals on Friday, the Jimmie men's wrestling team returned to home to face some upper level competition in the form of NCAA Division II members Minot State University. In the end, it was Jamestown prevailing by a score of 25-19.
Will Parks (SO/Perham, Minn.) pinned Bryce Broome at 6:04 in the 197 pound match to get the win for Jamestown. The dual was tied at 19 before Parks' six-point pin put UJ over the top.
Jamestown was open at 285, giving the Beavers six points to start. However, the Jimmies came back with wins in three straight matches. Jesse Barajas (JR/Sunnyside, Wash.) decisioned William Horton-Hayden 10-6 at 125, Joseph Zepeda (FR/Santa Maria, Calif.) won an 8-7 decision over Dean Arevalo at 133, and Dillon Kifer (SR/Little Falls, Minn.) pinned Jered Sublet in 5:22 at 141.
Minot State responded with back-to-back-victories. Cody Haugen won a 10-1 major decision over Brandon Aragon (SO/Pueblo, Colo.) at 149, and Shane Sheppard won a 5-1 decision over Jackson Schauer (SO/Grand Rapids, Minn.) at 157.
Keegan Berry of the Beavers pinned Ryan Sanchez (FR/Deland, Fla.) in 0:41 at 184 to tie the dual at 19, setting up a winner-take-all situation in the 197 pound match.
Parks trailed Broome 4-3 after the first period, but rallied to take an 8-5 lead entering the third. Parks earned two more points in the third to lead 10-5 before getting the pin.
Jamestown hosts Northland Tech in a dual on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m. from the Hansen Center.
