The Jamestown College men's soccer team opens its regular season Saturday at home against Dakota Wesleyan University with a LIVE WEBCAST starting at 2 pm. The Jimmies open with high expectations for the 2010 season.

Coming off a season which saw the men finish 2-15, ending with a first round exit from the regional playoffs, the Jimmies have more than reloaded its roster.

"The goal was to put together a roster with depth at each position and strength in our defense and goalkeeping," said Head Coach Phillip Bohn. "We have three quality goalkeepers and go seven players deep in our defense. There is no question that our weakness in these areas a season ago has become the strengths of this team."

A season ago the Jimmies lost 5-1 to DWU early in the season, surrendering multiple goals in a short span, an issue the Jimmies struggled with all season. Bohn believes through recruiting and player development this should be an issue of the past.

"As time goes on this season I believe we will be able to rely heavily on our defense to carry us through some tough challenges, Bohn said."

After reaching the post-season for the first time in the programs history last fall, the Jimmies have raised the stakes for 2010.

"Last season our goal was to make the playoffs," Bohn said. "We went head-on against the eventual regional tournament winner, Bellevue, and played right with them for most of the game. This year are goal is the National Tournament. This group has the talent and depth to reach its goals; we just need some time to put it all together."

Saturday marks the team's first test and Bohn believes his team has all the motivation it needs to get the season started on the right foot.
